Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte disturbance in patients admitted to the NICU. A decision tree for
the evaluation and management of hyponatremia in critically
ill neurologic patients is proposed in Figure 2. Initial evaluation should include assessment of serum and urine osmolality. Iatrogenic causes should be identiļ¬ed and removed when
possible.
